Murakami Ryu’s Trilogy: Ecstasy, Melancholia & Thanatos
Murakami Ryu’s trilogy begins with Ecstasy, following Miyashita, a young film crew assistant whose encounter with a mysterious woman draws him into a spiral of self-discovery, hedonism and emotional extremes — including sadomasochistic exploration.
Melancholia, the central theme behind this EP, shifts toward introspection and sombre reflection, exploring similar emotional landscapes through a quieter, internal lens.
Finally, Thanatos closes the trilogy. Although less documented publicly, Murakami’s hallmark elements appear throughout his work: disillusionment, surrealism, psychological tension, drug use, and the shadows of Japan’s darker societal backdrop.
The trilogy stands as a powerful exploration of human nature, desire, vulnerability and the quiet turbulence of the mind — perfectly aligned with the atmospheric direction of this EP.

wind-up bird is a lofi producer based in Georgia. Active since 2022, his introspective and cinematic approach to lofi has already resonated with more than 80,000 monthly listeners on Spotify.
